Engagement

A proposal may only last a few minutes but the memories last a lifetime, that’s why getting it right is important. Your engagement is the first step towards a life in union with your partner and it all starts with the engagement ring. Searching for the right design can be confusing but we believe it’s best to start with the diamond. Diamonds come in all shapes and cuts, each with their own unique characteristics – no two diamonds are exactly alike.

giaclarityscale

You’ve probably heard of the four essential C’s; they include clarity, colour, cut and carat.

Clarity refers to the internal and/or surface reaching characteristics of natural diamonds. These characteristics can be obvious or impossible to see with the naked eye. Clarity grades have been standardized by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and are widely used throughout the world.

diam-colour

It is important to remember that the scale is a spectrum and not static. We can help you make sure you make that best choice.

Generally, colour refers to the appearance or lack of yellow inside the diamond. Again, GIA has established a linear scale to help consumers visualize the subtle differences.

diam-cut

Cut is arguably the most important aspect when considering your diamond purchase. Diamonds are highly refractive and when polished they radiate dazzling array of colour in brilliant flashes of fire. When you propose, that diamond should dance before your partner’s eyes.

diam-sizes

At Fortunes we make it our priority to source ideal cut diamonds for our jewellery. Ideal proportions provide the most light-return and, consequently, a specular show of colour and light.

The last and most well-known C is carat. Diamond carat weight is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs.

It’s important to remember that a diamond’s value is determined using all of the 4Cs, not just carat weight.
